Effective mediation helps parties in conflict find solutions to their issues, preferably on their own with communication assistance from the mediator.

Effective mediation requires both respect and collaboration.

I believe that all of us recognize the importance of fostering both of these elements in resolving conflicts, whether in the workplace or at home even when, and arguably, especially when a marriage break-down has developed. 

My own approach to mediation includes respect for individual uniqueness, as well as understanding the commonalities shared by all of us–what hurts us and what helps us to heal, what aspirations we have, and what fears. 

I use this approach to guide the best ways to communicate with different individuals including how to help them communicate with each other– an ultimate end-goal of successful mediation, either in a marriage or a business conflict.
